Commissioners discuss Kansas’ upcoming “Value Them Both” vote

Sedgwick County plans to publish the Kansas Secretary of State's explanation of the "Value Them Both" constitutional amendment, up for vote on August 2.

The motion was made by Commissioner Jim Howell, who said the county needed to clarify exactly what the amendment says.

Howell referenced a recent newsletter published by Commissioner Lacey Cruse in which she discussed the amendment. Howell called parts of her newsletter "factually incorrect."

Cruse and Commissioner Sarah Lopez responded by saying Howell was singling out one commissioner.

Chairman David Dennis said he'd like to see the county create policy about what can and can't be published in commissioners’ newsletters that are supported by taxpayer dollars.

The deadline to register for the August 2 election is July 12.
