Commissioners look into Sedgwick County 911 call outage

911 Outage

This past weekend a phone outage affected calls to 911. Now, County officials are looking at fixing the problem.

Elora Forshee, the county director for emergency communications said during Tuesday’s County Commissioner’s meeting that they knew AT&T was scheduled to test the system.  But, they were also told there wouldn't be any interruptions. Instead calls would not go through for several hours.  Forschee said that was unacceptable.

The state 911 Coordinating Council made up of emergency management directors, and lawmakers, is in charge of the contract with AT&T.  Still, the issues have county commissioners asking why that council is necessary.

Commissioner Dennis said he is willing to reach out to the council to push for change, in the hopes of preventing this type of outage from happening again.
