A roundtable discussion was held at the Wichita Veterans Association. It was hosted by Kansas Sen. Doctor Roger Marshall.

Several issues were discussed at Wednesday's meeting.  VFW Department Service Officer Todd Schroeder, pointed out that the biggest concerns are about health care and services for veterans.

“We’re short a significant number of representatives to take care of veterans,” Schroeder said. “A lot of veterans are having to do things on their own,” he added.

There still are many veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, are not seeking the help and benefits that they have earned.

“A lot of veterans don’t file for benefits and services, because they operate under the belief that one, they don’t deserve it.  And two it should be reserved for those who really need it,” Schroeder said.

However, he explained that the services are for them, because they signed up to put their life on the line for this country.

A veterans’ outreach event is planned for this coming weekend to connect veterans with benefits.  It's from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday (4/15/2023), at Towne West Square and is hosted by the Wichita V.A.
Hospital.
