Derby Police: Person of interest wanted in weekend homicide

UPDATE: On August 29 the person of interest in the homicide case that occurred at 1215 N. Westview turned himself in to Derby Police.
The suspect, Demarc M. Burgess, was booked for second degree murder.

The Derby Police Department is asking the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in a weekend homicide.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning, officers responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of N Westview.

The officers found a man, suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to an area hospital, and later died from his injury.

After interviewing several witnesses, investigators are looking for a person of interest.  He's described as a black man in his mid-20's, slender build.  He has a street name of "D" or "Dee."

Anyone who knows the identity of this person should contact the DPD at 788-1557, 911 or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.

Officers advise that you should not try to approach or apprehend this person.
