Dry conditions in southern Kansas have officials warning of extreme grassfire danger into Friday.
Strong winds, above normal temperatures, and very dry conditions will support extreme grassland fire danger Friday afternoon across south-central Kansas; Temperatures are expected to reach 70 degrees on Friday (22 degrees above normal) with a gusty wind from the southwest.
Outdoor burning is highly discouraged through Friday. Any fires that develop would likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control; much of the state has been without measurable precipitation for up to two months.
