Tuesday is Election Day throughout the nation, and in Sedgwick County.
Three Wichita city council races, along with four school board seats, are up for re-election this year.
Some Wichitans will not have a ballot this time around. Laura Rainwater, Sedgwick County’s Election Commissioner, explains why someone might have no ballot.
“They have no contest to vote on. They’re primarily living in Wichita Council Districts 2 and 4, because those races aren’t on the ballot,” Rainwater said. “And then it crosses over with USD 259, which also has no election on the ballot. So be aware, if you go to the polls and you have no ballot, there’s a reason.”
Rainwater says this applies to about 20,000 Wichitans.
Early voting closed Monday at noon. The final opportunity to vote is today on election day; polls remain open for 12 hours, closing at 7 p.m. There are locations across the city, but you must vote at your assigned polling location.
You must also bring a government issued photo I.D. when you vote.
If you don’t plan to vote in person, you may drop off your mail-in ballot any time on Election Day (Tuesday) until the polls close. If you still need to mail your ballot, it needs to be postmarked with Tuesday's date and delivered by the post office to the election office by Friday for it to be counted.
