This mid-February arctic blast in Wichita is breaking records, some dating to the World War I era, and even further back into the 1800s.
On Thursday morning, the low temperature in Wichita fell to -8° at Eisenhower National Airport, the official measuring location for the National Weather Service, breaking the old record low for the date of 3° set in the year 1918.
On Wednesday, February 19th, the area recorded record-cold high temperatures. Wichita hit a high on Wednesday afternoon of only 8°, substantially beating a record for the date of 20 degrees from the year 1889.
However, a warm-up isn't far away; temperatures will climb above freezing by the weekend, and by Monday, spring-like above-normal temperatures will arrive across Kansas.
