The Wichita City Council unanimously approved two new agenda items at Tuesday's meeting, including improvements for the Fire department's radio alerting system.

The city's current system is generally in poor condition, utilizing different equipment at each of the 21 stations. The city has been working to modernize the system since 2021.

Installation will cost nearly $2.78 million and the initial 1-year contract can be renewed for up to four, one-year terms, starting at around $38 thousand a year in year 2 and rising through year 5.

The council also approved hardware and software upgrades for Wichita Transit's daily operations, which includes paratransit scheduling, eligibility determination and service delivery. The current contract was set to expire in August.

If the city renews all four, 1-year options, the total cost to the city will be nearly $130 thousand, which is a 20 percent local match. The remaining 80 percent will be eligible for federal funding.
