
At Wednesday's Sedgwick County Commission meeting, the board learned some sobering stats about suicide in the county.
In 2024, 92 Sedgwick County residents took their lives, a slight decrease from 2023 and the lowest suicide rate in 10 years.
Men make up the majority of deaths, and half of suicide deaths had a known history of mental illness, typically depression. For those under the age of 54, relationship problems are the most common life stressor while above the age of 64, it's health problems.
