A Sedgwick County corrections employee was hospitalized following an attack by a teenager at a juvenile detention facility during the weekend, according to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
First-responders were called to the JDF after investigators said a 16-year-old male resident attacked a 38-year-old man, a corrections staff-member; this happened early Sunday afternoon in the 700 block of S. Hydraulic.
The employee suffered serious head injuries, and was hospitalized.
The Sedgwick County Department of Corrections operates the juvenile facility. Sheriff’s officials noted their agency does not run JDF, but is leading the aggravated battery investigation because the incident took place at a county-owned property.
Deputies will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges once the investigation is complete.
