Support is growing among Kansas lawmakers to call the Legislature into a special session before Thanksgiving to enact new laws for protecting workers who decline a government imposed vaccination mandate.

Senate President Ty Masterson said Tuesday that he wants lawmakers to reconvene Nov. 22 to consider proposals he outlined to make it easier for workers to opt out of the vaccine mandates and to give workers unemployment benefits if they're fired for refusing the shots.

2/3's of both the House and Senate would have to agree to hold a special session, and lawmakers are working to gather that support.

The measures are a response to mandates imposed by the Biden Administration.
