Kansas lawmakers were able to override a number of vetoes from the governor on Tuesday. One of the bills, the Transgender Athlete Ban prevents men from competing in women and girls sports. Lawmakers argued that biological differenced create a completive disadvantage.
Critics of the bill argue that the bill unfairly targets people who identify as LGBT.
Lawmakers were also successful in overriding the veto on the Parents Bill of Rights, giving parents more oversight in what their students learn in school, and allows them to challenge lessen plans and books.
The bills now head to House where they need a 2/3's majority vote to become law.
