Kansas Senator Gene Suellentrop, (R-Wichita), has announced his intention to step down from his seat in January.

The Wichita Republican was arrested in Topeka in 2021 on charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving.
The Kansas Highway Patrol arrested him for driving on the wrong side of the road on I-70 and not stopping when troopers tried pulling him over.
He was sentenced to six months for DUI and 90 days for reckless driving. However, all but two days were suspended of his sentence. As part of a deal, the felony charge of running from law enforcement was dropped.
Suellentrop has been in the Senate for about five years and he spent seven years in the Kansas House.
In an email to Senate President Ty Masterson, Suellentrop stated he will not be returning to the legislature in January.
