The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) says an officer-involved shooting Friday night in Saline County resulted in the death of a Hoisington man.
At approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday, two deputies with the Saline County Sheriff's Office traveled to a residence in rural Saline County to serve an arrest warrant to Dustin Vance, 42.
The arrest warrant was issued through the Barton County District Court for charges of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, and contributing to a child's misconduct.
As deputies approached the residence, Vance exited the house and onto the porch, armed with a holstered handgun. Vance did not comply with several verbal commands given by the deputies, and drew his handgun. That's when one of the deputies fired multiple times and struck Vance, who died at the scene.
The KBI says two other subjects were inside the home. A 41-year-old Salina woman was near the porch and was struck by one of the rounds fired. Deputies rendered aid to her before she was transported to Salina Regional Health Center. As of Saturday morning, she was listed in stable condition and is expected to recover.
The investigation is ongoing. Once it has concluded, the findings will be turned over to the Saline County Attorney for review.
