UPDATE: Man critically injured in shooting outside Wichita motel dies, suspect arrested

UPDATE: A 21-year-old man who was shot in a motel parking lot Friday night died and a suspect is in custody.

The incident was reported a little after 8 p.m. outside the Afton Motel, located in the 800 block of South Broadway, near Kellogg.

Wichita Police say the victim, identified as Martevion Davis, was involved in a disturbance shortly before he was shot. He was driven to a local hospital but later died.

The suspect, James Owens, 35, of Wichita, turned himself into Police Saturday afternoon. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for first degree murder. It is believed that Owens and Davis knew each other.

Wichita Police say the man was involved in a disturbance shortly before he was shot. The victim was driven to a local hospital for treatment.

Police are still investigating and ask that if you saw or heard anything connected to the shooting to call 911 or Crime Stoppers.
