One person was left in critical condition following a shooting Friday night at a northeast Wichita motel.
Officers were dispatched a little after 9 p.m. to the Super 8 motel, located just west of 36th Street North and Rock Road. When officers arrived they found a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital to be treated.
Police say earlier in the evening, the man threatened his 33-year-old girlfriend with a knife and took property from her. Police were not called but the woman sustained minor injuries.
The man later returned to the motel threatening the girlfriend and management again with the knife. The woman shot the man one time in self-defense.
Police say the woman cooperated with detectives and was released. The man will be arrested when he is released from the hospital.
