A shooting inside a nightclub in Wichita's Old Town early Sunday left nine people wounded and two trampled. At last word, no one had died. Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple tells KNSS News "we've got to do a better job working with our clubs in the entertainment district district when it comes to utilizing metal detectors and wands" in screening for weapons. Whipple says the police talked this club owner in May about "100% metal detector or wanding", but the club either didn't do that or patrons were able to get around the screening.
Whipple says the chief of police is pursuing a "close order" for the club, pending improvements in security. Whipple says there were at least four guns fired inside the club Sunday and "it seems like a complete failure in security".
Whipple commented during Mondays with the Mayor on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
