Sedgwick County Commission Chair Pete Meitzner attended a special meeting Monday of local, state, and federal officials to discuss the plan to return rail passenger service to Wichita; connected to Newton on the north and Oklahoma City on the south. Meitzner says the Federal Railroad Administration must approve the plan.
Chairman Meitzner says FRA approval could come later this year. According to Meitzner, local backers have already accomplished must of the required work to be considered for approval
At Wednesday's meeting, the Sedgwick County Commission will hear an update on the plan to move the Kansas African-American Museum from its present location in an old church building near the county jail. The museum has raised more than half the money needed to move into a building at Second and Main.
