Murder suspect arrested after a fatal shooting this week south of downtown Wichita

On Thursday, Wichita police arrested a male suspect in connection with the shooting death of 35-year-old Ladonte Ostrander.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday morning; at 5:12 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots in the 1000 block of S. Market, north of Lincoln. Officers searched the area but found no scene, victim, nor witness.

About 10 minutes later, officers were then dispatched to an unknown call in the 900 block of S. Market Street, south of downtown, south of Kellogg; they discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his lower extremities. Sedgwick County EMS crews responded, transporting the victim in critical condition to a hospital at 5:39 a.m., where he was later pronounced deceased at 6:00 a.m.
