A roofing material plant will expand in Newton, bringing another estimated 130 jobs to the area. North America's largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer GAF announced Wednesday that it plans to construct a new shingle plant in the Kansas Logistics Park.
The company says the facility will create more jobs in management, engineering and operations. In a release, Newton Mayor Rod Kreie said, "GAF has been an excellent partner throughout the process, and we thank Harvey County Economic Development and all those that played a role in helping bring this opportunity to Newton."
Construction on the plant is expected to start in June. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027. The company says it expects to reach full production capacity by mid-2029. The Newton City Commission approved $350 million in Industrial Revenue Bonds for the company in 2023.
