Today, registered nurses are on strike at one Ascension hospital in Texas and two Ascension hospitals in Kansas: the Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph and St. Francis hospitals in Wichita. At 7 a.m., the strike started.
The nurses say they are protesting unsafe working conditions that management has failed to address. In June, nurses also went on strike.
Ascension Via Christi says the contract for the replacement nurses is for a minimum of four days of work. Registered nurses who go on strike will be replaced for those four days. They can return to their scheduled shifts beginning the morning of Dec. 10.
Almost 1,000 nurses at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph hospitals belong to the National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United.
