
Voters are preparing to cast ballots this month on a $450,000,000 school bond issue for USD 259.
District officials are quick to point out that the plan is zero-rate because it won't change the property tax rates currently in effect.
However, opponents say that the language ignores that it represents a tax hike from 0 to 7.5 mills beginning in 2029. Or, that the actual cost of property taxes increases each year because of rising property valuations.
Vote by mail is underway. Early in-person voting at the Sedgwick County Election Office begins Tuesday, Feb. 18. Satellite locations open for early voting Thursday, Feb. 20.
Election day is Tuesday, Feb. 25.
