Officials say that a fire in a two-story Winfield building was intentionally set. Winfield fire crews were assisted by Arkansas City, Burden and Udall departments in battling the blaze around 3:30 Sunday morning.
Crews had entered the building to extinguish the fire, but conditions deteriorated and the crews evacuated. Firefighting continued from outside the building. After extinguishing the bulk of the fire from the exterior, fire crews re-entered at approximately 6:30 a.m. to extinguish multiple hot spots throughout the building.
The fire was under control around 7 a.m. The building was vacant. No injuries were reported.
