A man was taken into custody following a standoff in Wichita’s Old Town on Monday. Wichita police were called to the area around 1st and Mosley just before 11:00 AM after receiving a call from a woman who said a man pointed a gun at another man in an apartment.
Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the woman, but were unable to make contact with either man. After several hours, police eventually made contact with the suspect, who they said would not cooperate with crisis negotiators so SWAT was sent in.
Once SWAT entered, the suspect began complying with negotiators and surrendered. The standoff ended without incident just before 6:30 PM. Police searched the apartment once the standoff was over, and confirmed that a gun was involved.
Chief Joe Sullivan called it a frustrating situation that could’ve been resolved quickly if the suspect would have just answered the door and answered questions for the police.
