Beginning Tuesday in downtown Wichita, motorists need to be ready to pay to park in a public space or garage. Anyone parking in one of those areas downtown will need pay at a kiosk or on a smartphone.

The parking rate is $1 per hour. There is also daily rate options of $5 for lot space or $10 for a garage space. Pay times are between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Parking is free from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sunday parking is free.

The smartphone app is available on Google Play or the Apple app store. For the first month, motorists receive one free hour of parking with the purchase of at least one hour. The pay at kiosk option accepts cash or a card. Kiosks can be found along Douglas Avenue, along with St. Francis and Emporia Streets. Parking remains free for now in Delano and Old Town. The city said money collected through parking fees will pay to keep public parking spots maintained.
