Park City Water Emergency

Park City residents must boil their water following a water main break Tuesday morning. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued the advisory after the break caused pressure loss in the distribution system, which could allow bacterial contamination.

Residents should boil water for one minute before drinking or cooking, or use bottled water. They should also discard ice cubes and avoid using automatic ice makers. If tap water looks dirty, let it run until clear. For dishes, add one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water and soak for one minute.

Bath water doesn't need boiling, but parents should supervise children to prevent swallowing. People with cuts or rashes should consult their doctors before bathing.

The advisory remains in effect until officials confirm the water system is safe. The loss of pressure can reduce chlorine levels that normally prevent bacterial growth.

For questions, contact the water system at 316-249-0880 or KDHE at 785-296-5514. Restaurants should contact the Kansas Department of Agriculture at kda.fsl@ks.gov or 785-564-6767.
