Police: Man shoots himself following Wichita traffic stop

Shooting

A man shot himself following a Wichita traffic stop. It happened around 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon on Oliver, just south of Kellogg. Police say the car was stopped due to a cracked windshield. A passenger go out and ran down the street.

Investigators said the man then went behind a building about a block away, and shot himself.  "There's no such thing as a routine traffic stop, you have to be ready for anything," said Officer Trever Macy.

It's not known why the man ran from the officers.  He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
