The city of Wichita approved a memorandum of understanding between the city, Wichita State and the University of Kansas for a proposed 471 thousand square-foot biomedical campus in the downtown area.

In a news release from Wichita State, the university says the campus will combine WSU’s College of Health Professions, WSU Tech’s Health Professions program and the Wichita campuses of KU School of Medicine and KU School of Pharmacy into one location. There will be shared spaces for advanced laboratories, clinical research and technology.

The city will either sell or lease two city tracts located at 200 S. Broadway and 214 S. Topeka for the proposed project.

Jeff Fluhr, President of the Greater Wichita Partnership, said the campus would provide great opportunities for the city, region and state.

So far, $205 million of the needed $300 million has been raised for the project. Construction on the facility is expected to begin early next year and be completed in 2026.
