A prominent Republican senator in Kansas urged on Tuesday to maintain workers' religious exemptions from COVID-19 vaccine mandates and to provide unemployment compensation if they refuse to get vaccinated.
During a meeting of a joint legislative committee searching for ways for Kansas to fight President Joe Biden's COVID-19 vaccine restrictions, Senate President Ty Masterson detailed his proposals. The committee was expected to take up Masterson's proposals.
During a break in the committee's hearing, Masterson told reporters that he's more seriously considering calling a special session of Congress to explore such suggestions. The full Legislature won't meet again until January.
Masterson, an Andover Republican, serves on the committee, and his ideas are likely to have significant support from other GOP lawmakers.
