Sedgwick County Commissioners have approved a $1.281 million transfer of funds from their operating reserve to the treasurer's office, as a vendor has failed to pay the county the money it owes them.
The transfer is necessary so that the county can distribute tax foreclosure sale proceeds.
CivicSource, the company used by the county treasurer to process the sale payments, has not delivered the proceeds nearly 2 months after the fact.
Commissioner Jim Howell is not happy they are having to use taxpayer money to cover the shortage.
Typically proceeds are delivered within a month. The county has filed a theft report with the sheriff’s office and federal authorities and is pursuing all legal remedies.
