An independent review of a fire that resulted in the death of a young Wichita woman last year finds that there were shortcomings in how city and county departments responded, and that those shortcomings “contributed to an unorganized rescue effort.” However, the Jensen Hughes review team cannot conclude that the shortcomings identified in the report, would have changed the outcome. 30 findings and recommendations were provided in the 108-page report. Sedgwick County Commission Chair Ryan Baty tells KNSS News many improvements have already been made, investing "significant dollars into 911" in technology, staffing changes, compensation changes".

At Wednesday's meeting, the County Commission will adopt its 2025 legislative platform.  Baty tells KNSS News 16 of the county's 46 departments are direct conduits of the state, and the county is now susidizing those state departments with local property tax dollars.

Baty commented during his weekly chat with Steve and Ted in the Morning on KNSS.
