A Sedgwick County detention deputy is recovering after being assaulted by an inmate. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), said in a release that the incident took place just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
The deputy was attempting to check a toilet inside of a cell, when the inmate attacked him. The deputy was transported to an area hospital with a fractured nasal bone and a fractured right hand that will require surgery.
The inmate involved was not injured. He has been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail 14 times between 2005 and 2022, and is currently housed in a single-occupancy cell due to repeated disciplinary issues.
