A Sedgwick County deputy and two others were injured Saturday morning in an Oaklawn neighborhood after being attacked by a pack of dogs.
Deputies responded just before 10:10 a.m., to the 4600 block of S. Hemlock.
They found 10 to 15 dogs, believed to be Boston terriers, running at large. One deputy was attacked as he tried to help an injured 18-year-old man. Two deputies fired their guns to stop the attack but no people, animals or property were hit by gunfire.
Deputies learned a 69-year-old woman had gone to her son’s home on Hemlock and the dogs bit her inside the house. She fled but the dogs chased her and then attacked the 18-year-old man outside.
EMS took the man to a Wichita hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The woman went for treatment in a private vehicle. The deputy reported only minor injuries.
Sedgwick County Animal Control took custody of the dogs and is leading the investigation.
