Wichita police determined a reported kidnapping was unfounded but uncovered threats to a local school that resulted in two arrests and the recovery of three firearms.

It began around 11:45 a.m., Thursday morning when officers received information about a possible kidnapping involving a girl, 16. Initial reports claimed a teenage suspect had taken her by force and was armed.

Investigators later learned the girl was not kidnapped but was a reported runaway who returned home. When officers contacted her at her residence, they obtained information about threats to harm individuals at a local school. The threats involved armed suspects believed to be traveling in stolen vehicles.

Using Flock technology, officers located one of the vehicles. When they attempted a traffic stop, the suspects fled, crashed, and ran on foot. One suspect was arrested immediately. The second was located with assistance from a Wichita police drone and the Kansas Highway Patrol’s air unit.

Both suspects, age 17, were taken into custody. Three firearms were seized.
