Another round of extreme summer heat is headed back to Kansas, with temperatures expected to climb above 100 degrees this weekend.
After storms move out, Friday will turn sunny and warmer, with Wichita temperatures reaching around 96 degrees. Strong south winds will add to the heat.
Saturday and Sunday are Storm Team 12 Weather Alert Days, with highs expected between 100 and 105 degrees. Despite the extreme temperatures, lower humidity should keep conditions below the most dangerous heat category.
A weak cold front will move through northern Kansas late Sunday into Monday, bringing some storms and limited relief to areas along and north of I-70. Wichita and much of southern Kansas will remain hot and dry.
The heat is expected to continue through much of next week, with highs hovering near 100 degrees each day. Forecasters say a stronger cold front could eventually bring a significant cooldown, but that may not arrive until Labor Day or later.
