Wichita has a new mayor. Tuesday’s unofficial results show challenger Lily Wu has defeated incumbent Brandon Whipple.
She led the race from the start, and her numbers kept her in a decisive lead through the night. “I’ve worked really hard, along with a team who really believe in this vision to move Wichita forward, together, toward a better Wichita,” Wu said.
One of her goals is to work closely with the city council to be a bridge builder for the community.
Meanwhile, at the Brandon Whipple watch party, he spoke to supporters before leaving at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
He said he wasn’t giving up, but was waiting to see what happens as the votes came in.
As of Tuesday night, Whipple had not conceded the race.
