A firefighter with the Wichita Fire Department, (WFD), has died after battling a house fire south of Wichita. It began just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the 9800 block of S. Laura. Officials said a passerby saw flames coming from the home while driving on the Turnpike, and called 911.
Multiple crews responded, including; Sedgwick County Fire; Derby Fire; McConnell Fire as well as the WFD. The fire was quickly brought under control. The firefighter was the only one injured.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Fire and Tobacco, Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and Sedgwick County Fire are now investigating the incident.
Initial reports said that the firefighter was unconscious and not breathing, but did not indicate if it was due to an injury or if it was a medical emergency.
