This is Law Enforcement Memorial Week. Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple tells KNSS News we should appreciate our law enforcement officers every day of the year. He says making calls to injured officers are "some of the worst calls I make". He says policing is "sometimes a thankless job", but one that is "necessary" to keep our citizens safe.

Last weekend Wichita police investigated at least three shootings ... including the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy. Mayor Whipple says many shootings are done with guns stolen from cars and homes in the city. He says young people are making bad choices that will impact their lives and others for many years.

Recently local officials have been talking about the increasing number of traffic fatalities in Sedgwick County ... more than any other county in Kansas. Two more died in Wichita traffic over the weekend. Mayor Brandon Whipple says he believes "distracted drivers" may be invoved in many fatal traffic accidents.

Whipple commented during Mondays with the Mayor ... on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
