Wichita Police have arrested a man in connection to a fatal crash in south Wichita Saturday morning.
Just before 2:40 a.m., Police were called to a single-vehicle crash in the 1700 block of S. Mosley. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle which had collided with multiple trees.
A passenger in the front seat, Lanashia Clay, 22 of Wichita, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 25-year-old Wichita woman, a passenger in the rear of the vehicle, sustained serious injuries. She remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
The driver was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. A preliminary investigation found that alcohol and drugs were suspected to be contributing factors in the crash.
After being released from the hospital, the driver, identified from Sedgwick County Jail records as Charles Smith, 30 of Wichita, was taken into custody. He was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery-DUI and driving with a suspended license.
