After deferring the motion last month, the Wichita City Council officially renamed the McAdams Recreation Center as the Carl G. Brewer Community Center.

Cathy Brewer, the widow of the former Mayor, had asked the council on August 24 to hold off on the proposal until the family had a chance to discuss it.
Mayor Brandon Whipple read a written statement from Mrs. Brewer, a part of which read as follows: "Carl truly cared about Wichita and its citizens, and especially those that live in disadvantaged areas. He worked hard to ensure that these neighborhoods were not forgotten and were afforded the same amenities as everyone else."
The renaming affects just the rec center. The park will continue to be named after Emerson McAdams.
