Wichita Riverfront Stadium opening a big success

Brandon Whipple

7,500 fans showed up for the inauguration of Wichita's new 90 million-dollar Riverfront Stadium Saturday, as the Wichita State baseball team played Houston. The pandemic has kept the stadium for the first year after its construction. KNSS News asked Mayor Brandon Whipple if there was any concern about COVID-19 with such a large gathering. He said people wore their masks and it was "completely open-air". The mayor said there a few complaints about parking and traffic delays in the area, but he said those are "growing pains" for the new facility.

The recent vaccination clinic has aroused interest in the former downtown Wichita library building ... and what to do with that facility. Mayor Brandon Whipple tells KNSS News the city is entertaining ideas and "we want to figure out the best way to use that space".

Whipple commented during Mondays with the Mayor on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
