The Wichita Emergency Winter Homeless Shelter at the former Park Elementary school is opening ahead of the amended schedule.
Earlier this month, the city said it planned to open the $1,000,000 shelter by Thanksgiving. That's a target that will now be missed by only one day, with the opening now set for Friday.
The Wichita’s City Council approved HumanKind Ministries to operate the shelter, who was the only organization to submit a proposal. Final details were added last week for the planned Dec. 2 opening.
But, now the shelter will be open beginning Friday through March.
