Rolling to Remember has announced the official route for its motorcycle rally through Washington, D.C. on Memorial Day weekend.

An estimated 50,000 motorcycles will stage and disperse from parking lot 8 of RFK Stadium at 12 p.m. on May 30 and make their way through D.C., and circle the National Mall.

The second annual Rolling to Remember Demonstration Ride follows a three-decade-long ride hosted by Rolling Thunder. The ride, which calls for furthered efforts to recover American POW/MIAs as well as awareness for veteran suicide, will round the border of the District by way of Interstate 395 en route to the National Mall.

“The route is the most direct possible, staying out of the residential neighborhoods and avoiding certain routes key to the faith-based community on a Sunday morning,” said AMVETS National Executive Director Joe Chenelly.

The fate of this year’s ride had been left in doubt when the Department of Defense turned down AMVETS' request to use the Pentagon Parking Lot as a staging area.

“When others turned us away, the District of Columbia helped AMVETS find a way for our fellow veterans to be heard, to honor the fallen and missing,” Chenelly said. “They and several other leaders and agencies have shown remarkable support for veterans and the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.”
