Central and eastern Kansas are under a weather alert today, as strong to severe storms are expected to develop later.
The day will start mostly cloudy and cooler, with highs in the 60s and 70s. This afternoon may see a few isolated storms, but the main round of weather is expected to arrive this evening.
Storms are likely to move in between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., bringing the potential for large hail up to golf-ball size, wind gusts as high as 70 mph, and heavy rainfall. There is also a small chance of an isolated tornado.
Conditions improve on Thursday with quieter, more comfortable weather before another round of storms arrives Friday. The strongest activity Friday is expected in the afternoon and evening, mainly along and east of the Kansas Turnpike, though exact placement remains uncertain.
Looking ahead to the weekend, drier and cooler weather is expected, with morning temperatures in the 30s and 40s and afternoon highs in the 60s. Warmer, calmer conditions return early next week.
