(KNX 1070) - It was a heartfelt vigil Sunday night to remember the sole victim of the Trader Joe’s hostage situation in Silver Lake exactly one year after the chaotic incident.

Mely Corado, an assistant manager at the store, was struck by a bullet from the LAPD in a crossfire standoff situation between the police and a suspect last July.

While it’s been a year since Mely Corado got caught in the crossfire during a shootout between police and a suspect inside the store, one of her close friends says it feels like just yesterday and the pain is very real.

"Many things remind me of Mely but while these memories make me sad they also remind me that I was lucky and so privileged to have Mely in my life," the friend said at the vigil.

Her brother, Albert Corado. Jr.,  spoke during the service as well.

He says he also is faced with daily reminders of his sister, some that make him smile and others that cause pain.

"There is no moving on from this. There is only this," her brother said.

Meanwhile, many people gathered outside the store in Silver Lake, holding candles and sunflowers in honor of Corado.

Others wore shirts that said “Mely Forever” and “Silver Lake Always” saying they will never forget what happened and will cherish the memories they had with Mely.

There were a lot of tears as Mely Corado’s close friends and coworkers spoke about the pain they still feel one year after she was killed during a shootout inside the Silver Lake Trader Joe’s. Many say they are still processing what happened and they think of her daily. @KNX1070 pic.twitter.com/v1ubr5TkKn
