It looks like LA County beaches will remain open during Labor Day weekend.
That's according to the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors on Friday.
Beach-goers are expected to physical distance, wear a mask and no gatherings or events to be expected.
"Beaches will be open throughout the holiday weekend. We do ask that you plan to limit your time at the beach so others can enjoy the beach without creating crowds. Please avoid crowded areas or crowding around others at the beach. Beaches that become too crowded may be forced to close," the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors wrote on its
website.
Unless they are eating, drinking or in the ocean, beachgoers must wear face masks, according to current protocols established by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. They should maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from people who are not in their households.
While beachgoers may bring up to 10 members of their own households to the beach, gatherings between members of two or more households are still prohibited.
“We cannot stress enough the importance of following the public health guidelines,” DBH Director Gary Jones said in a press release. “It is absolutely imperative that beachgoers avoid crowds. If the beaches get too crowded, we may be forced to close them again.”
The last time beaches were closed across the state was when Gov. Newsom ordered all state parking facilities at state beaches in SoCal and the Bay Area to be closed for the July 4 weekend.
The announcement comes as a ferocious heatwave takes over SoCal for Labor Day. The California ISO issued a statewide Flex Alert, a call for voluntary electricity conservation, beginning Saturday and extending through Monday, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., due to excessive heat in California. Health officials have warned of gatherings with non-household members this long weekend.
Beach volleyball courts and firepits will be closed.
