Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva is calling for increased regulation on "ghost gun" parts.
The sheriff will discuss his ideas further in an interview on Sunday night's "60 Minutes" on CBS, KTLA 5 reports.
Ghost guns are homemade guns produced using an 80% complete weapon and purchased parts. They're sold online and at gun shows and are virtually untraceable. They are also known as kit guns or 80-percent guns.
Unfinished parts of a gun are not required to have serial numbers, and consumers don't need to have a background check done to purchase them.
A ghost gun is responsible for the November 14 shooting at Saugus High School that killed two students and wounded three others.
