HUNTINGTON PARK (CNS) - A fire heavily damaged a commercial building in Huntington Park today, but no one was hurt.
The blaze was reported about 10:40 a.m. in the three-story building in the 2000 block of Belgrave Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A large plume of black smoke could be seen from miles away from the fire, which burned through the roof of the building. Firefighters went into a defensive mode and prevented the flames from spreading to other structures in the area.
The fire was extinguished in about two hours, but some firefighters remained on scene dousing hot spots.
Personnel from the Vernon Fire Department assisted county firefighters in dousing the flames.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
