(KNX 1070) - An Orange County lawmaker is proposing a new state law to put a cop on every campus.
Orange County Assemblymember Phillip Chen wants a school resource officer assigned to every public school campus across the state.
There are 10,473 campuses and the SRO's would come from a local police department or be hired to do the job.
"Where do you get the manpower? Police shortages in many school communities already exist and how would it be implemented at the cost of policing elsewhere throughout our society," said Ken Trump, a school safety security expert told KNX reporter Craig Fiegener.
The price tag for something like this would be enormous but he is proposing the state would take on the cost.
If the bill becomes law, there would be a rush to hire more than 10,400 school resource officers.
