SWAT officers were sent today to a discount store in the Koreatown area, where a shooting suspect barricaded himself for nearly four hours before being taken into custody.
Officers in the area of Eighth Street and Vermont Avenue witnessed the suspect shoot another man in a foot and chased him to the building on Vermont Avenue between Eighth and Ninth Streets just after noon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers contained the area and summoned a SWAT team, which evacuated employees at A&A Shine Bargain store and surrounding businesses, according to the LAPD.
Officers used tear gas to flush out the suspect, who was taken into custody about 3:50 p.m., police said. The suspect, who's in his early 40s, was not immediately identified.
The wounded victim was taken to a hospital.
Street closures triggered by the standoff caused major traffic congestion in the area.
